MUL 2010   Music Appreciation

In this course, students will survey the history of classical music from Antiquity to the modern period, focusing on Western music. The curriculum may also integrate a variety of popular and global styles where appropriate. Student Learning Outcomes: • Students will discuss and analyze music using terminology appropriate for the course. • Students will demonstrate fundamental knowledge of the works of significant composers. • Students will identify connections between music and the other arts. • Students will identify historical styles and periods based on instruments and performance practices utilized. Credit cannot be earned in both MUL 2110 and MUL 2010. Meets General Education requirement in Humanities. Meets Multicultural Requirement.

MUL 3602   Vocal Literature

Overview of solo vocal literature for all levels of students from beginning to college. Designed for music teaching and performance majors. Explores the origins of solo song, its significant composers, forms and styles from the Renaissance to the present in the four major singing languages; French, German, Italian, and English. Permission is required.

Survey of the piano literature from the Baroque to the 21st Century. Students will explore, study and apply different interpretation methods and literature from the 17th to the 21st century.
