The Professional Education Unit (including teacher preparation programs in the Department of Teacher Education and Educational Leadership, the Department of Exercise Science & Community Health, the Department of Music, and TeacherReady®) is currently accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE). This accreditation covers initial teacher preparation programs (traditional and alternative) and advanced educator preparation programs at the Pensacola and online campuses. However, the accreditation does not include individual education courses that the institution offers to P-12 educators for professional development, relicensure, or other purposes. In preparation to UWF's upcoming accreditation visit in 2017 the Professional Education Unit is currently aligning the educator preparation programs to the new Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP) standards of educator preparation. At the state level, all initial certification programs have received approval by the Florida Department of Education (FLDOE).
